Happy Holidays from the Machado Lab! It’s a good time of year to take stock and appreciate the good things we have. For me, I’m thankful for a stellar team; you can just tell by how they all pitch in to tackles problems together (exhibit A, chocolate fountain, photo to the left). Preprint alert! Our preprint shows that somatic mutations in tumour infiltrating lymphocytes in the gene TYK2 can confer anti-cancer immunity. This was a collaboration with Quotient Therapeutics and the lab of Hao Zhu. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.10.13.682217v1

We’re excited to welcome a second PhD student to the team, Tomás Lopes! Tomás joins us from Imperial College London (MRes) and King’s College London (BSc) and plans to look at immune remodeling in liver disease and cancer.

A warm welcome to Trinity Eales, who has just joined the lab for her PhD! Trinity is co-supervised by Eoin McKinney in CITIID (Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease) and has a passion for cancer immunology.

We have been awarded a Pump Priming Award from the Bioinformatics and Genomics Trust. Our project will endeavor to set up immune repertoire sequencing at the Cambridge Genomics Services (CGS) of the Pathology Department. If successful, this will become a service available to any CGS user.

The Machado Lab opens this August! We are joining the talented group of researchers of the Department of Pathology of the University of Cambridge. We will be located in the Pathology Building on Tennis Court Road, Cambridge UK.
